Phnom Penh’s Latest Golf Course June 1st, 2019

Sir Nick Faldo's New Course Opens in Phnom Penh

Located 40 minutes drive south east of the capital, Vattanac Golf Resort is the latest addition to the golf scene in Phnom Penh. Comprising of two 18 hole courses, both designed by Sir Nick Faldo, who has had great success already in Cambodia with his impressive layout in Siem Reap, Angkor Golf Resort.

The East Course at Vattanac Golf Resort is open to the general public, whilst the West Course is still under development and will be designated for private members only. The East Course measures over 7,400 yards from the back tees but players of all abilities can enjoy the layout as a variety of tees are available on each hole to suit every golfer. Buggies are compulsory on the course, but a rather unique feature is that they are driven on the fairway by your caddie directly to your ball. GPS positioning and digital yardage information is provided.

The resort has been developed on flat land so there isn’t much elevation change. However, throughout the building process extensive mounds have been created to shape and define the landscape, resulting in some great views of the hole ahead from the teeing areas. Visible water features come into play on most holes as do the numerous bunkers, so good course management of your game is essential.

Whilst playing golf at this resort you are reminded of the history of the Khmer empire. Pre-Angkorean mini structures of Bayon Temple, Preah Vihear and Angkor Wat make for unique features and a pleasant addition to the surroundings.

If you’ve already had the pleasure to play Angkor Golf Resort in Siem Reap you will know the high standard and quality of layout that comprises of a Faldo Design. This course is a must play on a visit to Phnom Penh.
